BUSD District Committees 2018-2019
PAC - Parent Advisory Council
We need one representative (and one alternate if possible) to the PAC, a District-wide group that provides parent input on the school district's Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) for special "supplemental" State funding to support low income students, English Learners, & foster children.
If you have a focus on equity, and would like to step up to represent our school and the families of students are supported by LCA supplemental funds, the PAC would be a great opportunity for you.
PAC meets once a month on Thursdays at 6:00 at the District Office Building. Our first meeting will be this Thursday, 10/18, 6:00 - 8:00, at Longfellow Middle School. Contact susanhodge@berkeley.net if you are interested.
BSEP P&O - Planning and Oversight Committee
This District-wide committee reviews and weighs in on annual expenditures of the Berkeley Schools Excellence Program (BSEP), the local special tax that provides about 20% of the BUSD budget, keeps class sizes small, provides school libraries, music, student support programs, technology & much more.
As a representative you will be at the table with the Superintendent, School Board members, and District leadership to ask questions and learn about these funds and resources. You can also connect with peers from other schools to help broaden your school community's perspective on how to address challenges at your site and improve best practices.
Our current representative, Dawn Paxson, is getting ready to graduate this year. We need a new representative (an alternate) to start attending with Dawn to get training for next year.
If you are interested please contact susanhodge@berkeley.net.
Facilities Committee
The School District is creating a master plan for all of the facilities within the District to meet the current and future needs of students & staff. The goal is to define a vision for schools & a ten-year plan for development. HY Architects has been contracted to lead this effort.
The first step is to perform a complete assessment of infrastructure and operations at each campus. To gain a complete view of our campus, HY would like to sit down with a committee of teachers, parents and office staff.
We need 4 to 5 parents to attend our first meeting on Monday, October 22nd from 3:15 to 4:45. This may be the only meeting or there may be a second follow up meeting. This is an excellent time to think about our future needs, especially during this transition year as I prepare to retire. Please email me if you can attend this meeting: susanhodge@berkeley.net
