HEART OF EMERSON FUNDRAISING KICK-OFF
The Heart of Emerson fundraising campaign kicks off today! Please look for the Heart of Emerson Letter in your student's Look Folders. This is the one major annual campaign to secure your financial support for the Emerson community. This fundraising advances the Emerson education beyond the level of district funding and support that our students would otherwise experience. The current Emerson experience is only possible with the Heart of Emerson fundraising, for example:
Weekly Physical Education with Coach Alessandra Robinson for every grade
Weekly Art with our talented art teacher Ms. Lucy Ames for every grade
Literacy and library programs including books, supplies, furniture, & special programs
Teacher professional development, class set of chromebooks, puberty education, curriculum, and mini-grants for classroom supplies
Scholarships for PTA Afterschool classes - robots, music, theater, chess, and more
Field trips for all grades, including subsidizing an overnight trip for 5th graders
Equity programs for staff, and students & families
Office support from Ms. Michelle that serves all teachers, staff, and student community
School-wide events to foster community and connectivity such as Move-a-thon, coffee at All School Meetings, school assemblies, childcare at Back-to-School Night - and much more!
To continue our same level of services for the 280 Emerson students in TK through 5th grade, fundraising needs to achieve an average contribution of $700+ per student. Give, knowing that some cannot. Every dollar matters and donations are tax-deductible.
Thank you!

ART CORNER WITH MS. AMES
TK Circle Art
Emerson's youngest artists created some fabulous art with circles as our featured shape. We started by using black circle stickers and then we dipped lids and cardboard cylinders in black paint to print circles all over. The next week we used paint sticks to color in as many circles as we wanted.

WALK AND ROLL
Celebrate International Walk and Roll to School Day!
Wednesday, October 4, 2023
Join Emerson for International Walk and Roll to School Day! We will celebrate our school spirit, our health, and the environment with the Alameda County Safe Routes to Schools program. We encourage you to celebrate safely and to follow local health guidelines.
This year, our school will celebrate in-person at the schoolyard. With your family and friends, you can participate by:
-Taking a walk, or riding a bike, skateboard, or scooter.
-Biking with your child on their own or with a trail-a-bike.
-Taking the bus with your child and walking to and from the bus stop.
Post a fun photo on social media to celebrate the day! Remember to tag @AlamedaCoSR2S on Twitter with #WalkandRoll23 and #IWR2SD, and post on Facebook at facebook.com/saferoutestoschool.
We'll have (small) prizes for students when they arrive at school in the morning. Volunteers are needed to help greet students and distribute prizes - please contact Kevin at kevin.jude@emersonelementary.org or 215-205-9458.
We look forward to walking and rolling with you!
WANTED: YEARBOOK EDITOR
Hello, Emerson Community! We currently have no one handling the 2023-24 Emerson Yearbook. It can be a solo project, or you can assemble a team of contributors. Online yearbook platforms are available to streamline designing and printing the book, and handle orders—we are happy to share what we've used recently. The bulk of putting Emerson's yearbook together happens January to April, though it's nice to start capturing photos now. If you're interested in taking this on, reach out to Michelle F (mfalise@gmail.com). The kids love the book, and it's a nice send off at the end of the school year!
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY: BE KIND TO TEACHERS
Greetings Emerson Parents!
This year, with the support of the PTA, we are thrilled to introduce an exciting and heartwarming initiative known as Random Acts of Kindness (RAK).
RAK is an anonymous gift-giving program, akin to "Secret Santa.” Throughout the year, classroom teachers will receive 4-6 small but thoughtful gifts on random occasions – completely unexpected. The gifts might be morning coffee and pastry, a bouquet of flowers, a captivating book, a yoga pass, etc.
Each classroom teacher will be paired with a dedicated RAK Parent who is responsible for selecting and delivering the RAK gifts. The identity of the RAK Parent will remain a secret until the end of the year.
We are in search of a few enthusiastic volunteers to become RAK Parents!
Becoming a RAK Parent is open to all Emerson Parents and guardians. The only requirement is a willingness to purchase thoughtful gifts and deliver them to the school. RAK Parents are eligible for reimbursement for their gifts by the PTA. Your chosen RAK teacher doesn't have to be your child's current teacher; it could be someone from your child's past or a teacher you admire and respect.
If you are interested in becoming a RAK Parent, email your name, your phone number, and your first and second teacher preferences to RAKProgramEmerson@gmail.com.
Sincerely,
David Rose
RAK Coordinator, Noah 4th
DISTRICT NOTE ON SCHOOL FUNDING
Dear School Community,
BSEP funding is essential to the district’s budget. The $37 million received from BSEP in the 2023-2024 school year represents 18% of the District’s funding for our public schools. BSEP funds critical programs including smaller class sizes, libraries, arts, music, counselors, site program funds, and more!
Our current BSEP measures sunsets at the end of the 2024-25 year. BSEP must be renewed in order to continue the programming and support that BSEP provides to every student in every school.
View our BSEP Renewal Fact Sheet to learn more
Please visit the BSEP Measure information webpage to learn more about how BSEP supports our students.
Por favor visite la página web de la Medida BSEP para obtener más información para obtener más información acerca de cómo BSEP apoya a nuestros estudiantes.
