It's going to be a blast– please plan on coming!
Black History Month in Art Class
In art class we love to read books illustrated by Black artists and we love to learn about Black artists as well. We do this off and on all year depending on what kids are learning about in class and/or what art projects make the most sense developmentally. We also learn about artists from other marginalized groups. Here are some of the Black artists we have been inspired by in the last year (in no particular order): Ezra Jack Keats, Christian Robinson, Abigail DeVille, Jessi Raulet (brand name Etta Vee), Favianna Rodriguez, Vanessa Brantley-Newton, Lorenzo Pace, Mark Bradford.
Wayne Thiebaud inspired desserts
Both 4th and 5th grade artists learned about California artist Wayne Thiebaud. After drawing ice cream cones in 4th grade and cakes in 5th, we made these ice cream sundaes with model magic clay. When Paper Plus party store went out of business they gave away supplies to teachers. I was able to grab these tiny bowls and spoons which made this project EVEN more fun!
THANK YOU!
Thank you for the staff lunch Friday, Feb. 7! Everyone enjoyed the food and boost for our morale during report card time!
