MONTHLY MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Emerson Families,

We are so grateful for the outpouring of support for our volunteer, Mr. Bob, who is recovering after being struck by a car while riding to Emerson. Join us next Wednesday, October 8, for this year’s International Walk and Roll to School Day, dedicated to Mr. Bob. His special request is that every Emerson child and parent wear a helmet; he believes that without a helmet, he might not have survived the accident. Please see the full announcement below for all the ways you can participate on October 8, including a Bike Train and “Walking School Bus” to Emerson in the morning.

It’s the Heart of Emerson campaign season once again. Your generous contributions help us maintain the outstanding academic and social-emotional programs at our school. With your support, we are able to offer Physical Education to all grade levels, fully-equip our classrooms with educational supplies, and provide students with immersive learning through field trips. We’re also able to fund important training for staff, parent education programs, and much more. We couldn't do this without you! We are asking families to consider a donation of $600 (if you are able to give more, please do). You can donate here: https://emersonelementary.org/heart-of-emerson

We are celebrating Latinx Heritage Month. Students have been learning about Latinx culture and history in their classrooms. Our very own Ms. Medina and Ms. Melgoza hosted the 4th Annual Latinx Storytelling Night. Families sampled traditional foods and participated in read-alouds celebrating Central and South American cultures. Families also had the opportunity to share why Latinx heritage is important to them. This event was open to all, and we enjoyed a wonderful turnout.

The annual Halloween parade will take place on Thursday, October 30, at 8:30 AM. Parents are welcome to meet us on the blacktop and join the parade down College Avenue. Students should come to school dressed in their costumes. We will have donated costumes available in the office for students who do not have one. Please do not send your child in scary costumes that include blood or weapons, as these can frighten our youngest students. We also ask that you avoid costumes that represent a specific culture. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to your child’s teacher.

We hope to see you tomorrow for the October All-School Meeting. We will have our first student performances of the school year. Join us on the blacktop at 8:00 AM for PTA-sponsored Coffee on the Yard.

With gratitude,

Principal Holmes

SIGN UP TO VOLUNTEER AT UPCOMING GAMES!

Our annual football parking fundraiser is expected to earn ~$15,000 for the PTA over the course of this season. We charge for cars to park on the blacktop during Cal games. But we need parents to make it happen! This fundraiser is a *great* deal. Each hour you volunteer translates into a roughly $150 donation for the PTA to fund school supplies, field trips, etc.

Sign up to be a captain or simply volunteer for a 3 hour slot for upcoming games: https://tinyurl.com/EMERSONparkingvolunteer
