UPDATE ON MR. BOB

Dear Emerson Community,

Thank you for being so supportive of Mr. Bob! I was able to visit Mr. Bob and his wife, Barbara, at Highland Hospital last Friday. Mr. Bob was happy to receive the many thoughtful cards from Emerson families and is taking time to read every single one. The cards boost his spirits. Mr. Bob wanted me to share these messages with the Emerson community: "When you see scary things, look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping." When Mr. Bob was hurt, several people helped him by comforting him and taking care of him until the ambulance arrived. Another message he has is "children and adults, wear your helmets. The bike helmet saved my life". We are thankful that Mr. Bob is on the road to recovery and inspired by his bravery and optimistic spirit.

On October 8, 2025 we are dedicating our International Walk and Roll to School Day celebration to Mr. Bob. If you are able, please join Emerson families Grove Park at 7:30a.m. to bicycle to school, or make your own plans to get to school by a green mode of transit. We plan to take a group photo at drop off around 8:00a.m. to share with Mr. Bob.

Sincerely,  Principal Holmes

Latine/x Heritage Month

The Berkeley Unified School District celebrates Latine/x Heritage Month to recognize and honor the contributions of generations of Latine/x Americans who have enriched and inspired our nation.

Visit the district’s Latine/x Heritage Month Resources web page for reading lists by grade level, family guides, teaching resources, event information, and much more.

FOOTBALL PARKING - Volunteer Sign Up!

Our annual football parking fundraiser is expected to earn ~$15,000 for the PTA over the course of this season. We charge for cars to park on the blacktop during Cal games. But we need parents to make it happen! This fundraiser is a *great* deal. Each hour you volunteer translates into a roughly $150 donation for the PTA to fund school supplies, field trips, etc.

Fill out this form to sign up to be a captain or simply volunteer for a 3 hour slot for the October 4, 2025 game: https://tinyurl.com/EMERSONparkingvolunteer

FAMILY DIRECTORY UPDATE!

ADD YOUR CONTACT INFO TO OUR ONLINE FAMILY DIRECTORY

To submit or update information, visit:

https://tinyurl.com/EMERSONFamilyDirectory

The Emerson Elementary Family Directory is a tool for families to coordinate and communicate. For example, families have used the Family Directory to coordinate carpools and playdates outside of school hours.

The Family Directory is organized by the Emerson Parent Teacher Association (PTA). The Family Directory will include the child's name, caregiver’s name, grade and teacher’s name. You can choose to include additional basic contact information (caregiver’s e-mail address and phone number) for inclusion in the directory. Our goal is 100% participation for all Emerson students.

Note: The Family Directory is not used by Emerson Elementary School administration to contact families; School Administration communications are sent using the Remind Application. To join remind: text @7f6hb to 81010; or go to - http://www.remind.com/join/7f6h.

GARDEN CORNER

Big thanks to the PTA and parent volunteers Sara Weisberg and Jessica Xu for the large delivery of mulch to our school garden. Emerson students had a blast unloading the mulch from Sara’s and Jessica’s trucks. Ms. Jeanette says that distributing mulch to keep the weeds down is consistently a favorite gardening class activity!

ART CORNER

Lines and Shapes and Patterns.... Oh My!

Fourth and Fifth-Grade Artists explored many of the elements of art with this project.  They drew different kinds of parallel lines and filled them each with a different pattern. They had to determine which line was in front and which was behind, using the element of space. Another space consideration was how they used all of the paper and the size and configuration of their negative shapes. They were also asked to consider the value of their lines, making some darker with more dense patterns, and others lighter.  Finally, they chose what kind of color scheme they wanted--- all kinds of colors or just part of the color wheel (analogous, warm, or cool).  They did a great job.  You can find the finished works in the upstairs hallway or in the art room if you'd like a closer look.

Great work, 4th and 5th graders!!
