Dear Emerson Families,

Welcome back! We are excited that the school year has started, and we look forward to seeing you at Back-to-School Night on Thursday, August 28! Do your best to attend so you can get important information from your child's teacher. This is an adults-only evening, so please make your child care arrangements now. We also hope you will join us on Friday, September 5, at 8:30 am for the first All-School Meeting of the year. Caregivers are welcome to join us for coffee on the blacktop and then stay for student shout-outs, student performances, and much more! We hope you will get involved by joining the PTA, the School Site Council, and/ or participating in classroom and school-wide activities this year. We also need volunteers for our Cal Football Parking fundraising drive. Don't forget to fill out the free/ reduced lunch form application at ezmealapp.com to help us secure state and federal funding that we need.

PTA TREASURER’S NOTE

At our August 28th PTA Association Meeting, we’ll be reviewing and approving the budget for the 2025–2026 school year, along with the 2024–2025 financial report and review.

We’re also looking for extra hands to support the treasurer role—whether that’s helping reimburse the teachers, reviewing budgets, or just learning the ropes. If you’re interested in pitching in, even a little, we’d love to hear from you! Please reach out at treasurer@emersonelementary.org.

GRADE PARENT HELPERS

We are calling in this year's Grade Parent helpers. If you have not already expressed interest, please reach out to Lead Grade Parent Madeline Noonan (madeline.noonan@emersonelementary.org). Madeline will host an orientation meeting for Grade Parents on September 5th, 2025, right after the All School Meeting.

FOOTBALL PARKING FUNDRAISER - Volunteer Sign Up!

Our annual football parking fundraiser is expected to earn ~$15,000 for the PTA over the course of this season. We charge for cars to park on the blacktop during Cal games. But we need parents to make it happen! This fundraiser is a *great* deal. Each hour you volunteer translates into a roughly $150 donation for the PTA to fund school supplies, field trips, etc.

ART CORNER WITH MS. AMES

Every student at Emerson will come to art once a week. Here is the approximate schedule below. If you can remember, please try not to send your child to school in their best clothes on art day! Thank you!

If you are interested in volunteering in your child's art class, please let me know--- I love to have more helping hands in the art room. (You can plan to come consistently, or let me know if you are available "on call" for special projects.) Send me a note at: lucyames@berkeley.net

Transitional Kindergarten: Wednesdays 12:30-1:15

Kindergarten: Mondays 10:30-11:10 and 11:50-12:30

1st Grade: Wednesdays 8:15-9 and 9-9:45

2nd Grade: Thursdays 8:15-9 and 9-9:45

3rd Grade: Wednesdays 10-10:45 and 10:55-11:40

4th Grade: Mondays 12:45-1:30 and 1:30-2:15

5th Grade: Mondays 8:40-9:25 and 9:30-10:15

I will hold on to almost all of the art so that it can get safely home in their portfolio in May. Sometimes I send seasonal art home during the year, but generally it is either on display at school or stored by class. If you ever want to see it, let me know.

I am looking forward to another creative year with Emerson's artists!
