MONTHLY MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Emerson Families,

Fall has begun and we have many exciting events planned for the month. Most importantly, you will have an opportunity to meet with your child’s teacher at the Parent Teacher Conferences during the week of October 28- Oct 31. We will have early release each day, with TK/Kinder finishing at 12:30 pm and Grades 1-5 at 1:10 pm. Every Emerson caregiver is strongly encouraged to attend your child’s conference. Check your classroom’s newsletter or Remind messages and sign up for your conference.

We invite you to campus TOMORROW, Friday, October 4th for the All School Meeting. We will kick-off Rainbow Fridays, which promotes our allyship with the LGBTQ community, as we stand against bullying and discrimination. Students learn respect through the Welcoming Schools Curriculum, which has been adopted by the school board. We are excited for our first student performances of the school year and of course, our special student Shout Out awards.

We hope that you will join us for the first gathering of the “Meeting on the Bridge” series, next Thursday, October 10th from 5:30- 7:30 pm, in the Emerson Library. Educational Consultant Ms. Pamela Harrison-Small will lead a workshop that highlights the power of children’s books to increase cultural awareness, foster student empowerment, and strengthen relationships between families at our school. The title of the first workshop is: Cultivating Cross-Cultural Compassion: Mirror/Window Books for Fostering Children's Global Awareness. Dinner and childcare will be provided but we need your RSVP: https://tinyurl.com/Meeting-on-the-Bridge-October

I am excited to partner with Ms. Lily from the Office of Family Engagement and Equity to host our 2nd Annual Black Family Dinner on Thursday, Oct 24, from 6:00- 7:30 pm. Ms. Davis (2nd Grade Teacher) and Ms. Kim (Intervention Teacher) will provide tips for supporting reading and math at home. We will also hear about PTA plans to support equity at Emerson. We will enjoy each other’s company in the Emerson Library. Dinner and childcare will be provided.

Finally, thank you to Fourth Grade Teacher Ms. Medina and First Grade Teacher Ms. M for hosting our 3rd annual Latine/x Storytelling Night on Oct. 3rd. This event has become a special tradition in which we celebrate the Latine/X culture with food, stories, and friendship!

Thank you to all the Emerson parents who have already donated to the Heart of Emerson fundraising campaign. Our goal is to raise $175,000 to support full time PE, field trips, materials and supplies and much more. We ask each family to consider donating $625 to help us reach our goal. If you can donate more please do, because some can not. You can donate and track our progress here: https://emersonelementary.org/heart-of-emerson.

Thank you for your support,

Jana Holmes

PTA FUNDRAISING

HEART OF EMERSON

The annual Heart of Emerson campaign is underway and this is your chance to show your support! So far, we’ve raised $18,750 towards our $175,000 total goal for this year. Let’s keep the momentum going to ensure we can continue offering PE class for every grade, putting on school-wide events, sending students on educational field trips, providing support and supplies for teachers and staff, and so much more. Every dollar matters!

Your donation of $625 would match the funds allocated for a single student. Please give, knowing that some cannot, and give early so we can plan for the rest of the year. Donate today and watch our progress thermometer climb! https://emersonelementary.org/heart-of-emerson

Donations are fully tax-deductible and eligible for employer matching gifts. Contact fundraising@emersonelementary.org with any questions. Thank you so much for your support of our community. Go, Emerson Bear Cubs!

ART CORNER

A PERENNIAL FAVORITE!

Kindergartners used paper strips to create these fantastic sculptures. We discussed the difference between lines and shapes, straight and curved, and generally had a fun time exploring different ways to make our paper look interesting.
