SEPTEMBER IS ATTENDANCE AWARENESS MONTH

Every day a student is in school is an opportunity to learn, build relationships, and access support. Strong attendance is foundational to student success. Please partner with us to have your child at school every day at 8:00 am.

PARENTS: Please take a few minutes to complete this survey about your child's experience with Math Education at Emerson.

Dear Emerson Families,

We are interested in hearing about your family's experiences with math in BUSD.

Your responses to THIS SURVEY will help guide the work of our district wide math initiative this year titled: The Meeting of Math Minds (M3)

Your responses are voluntary and will be confidential. You will not be individually identified. No one will know how you answered, and there will be no follow-up contact from the school.

COVID Protocols 2024- 2025 School Year

Covid protocols have been updated for the 2024- 2025 school year. You can find all the details here: https://www.berkeleyschools.net/covid/campus-safety.

As with other illnesses, a student must remain at home for at least 24 hours after a fever/vomiting/diarrhea without fever-reducing medication. In addition, symptoms should be lessening before the student returns to school. As a courtesy to classmates and school staff, we ask that students returning to campus wear a mask for 10 days from the onset of symptoms.

Please remember to report your student's Covid case to the district and Ms Michelle (leah...@berkeley.net). The district will give you instructions on returning to school and Ms. Michelle will excuse the absences.

Families can report student COVID cases using this form in eitherEnglishor in Spanish. After reporting a case, and if a student will be out of school, families should follow their school’s typical absence reporting procedures.

VOTE NOW: School Site Council Ballot- closes on Tuesday, September 17, 2024

According to the School Site Council By-laws, parents are elected as voting members, by their peers.

We are thankful that we have so many interested applicants this year. Please vote for parent/guardian representatives to the School Site Council. Votes will be accepted until Noon on Tuesday, September 17.

Even if a candidate is not elected as a voting board member, the School Site Council is open to all parents as community members.

To avoid over-counting individual responses, please enter your email address. Votes will be counted by your Principal and District staff to maintain anonymity.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS

FREE & REDUCED LUNCH APPLICATION

We ask that all families fill out the application for Free & Reduced Lunch, even if you think you do not qualify. Previously, Emerson has received up to $40,000 from State and Federal funds because families completed the application. Please help us by sending the paper copy which came home in the Look Folder the first week of school, or by applying online at www.ezmealapp.com. Applications must be completed by September 30, 2024.

JOIN THE PTA COLLABORATIVE

Concerned about the shortage of staffing for BUSD afterschool programs? Want to help but limited on time? Consider joining the PTA Collaborative (open to all, not limited to PTA members nor board) - this is a monthly 1-hr online/remote meeting hosted by BUSD's Extended Learning manager Yusef Auletta. Extended Learning includes BEARS, LEARNS, enrichment through those programs and PTA-sponsored afterschool programs, as well as summer school.

The Berkeley Food Network will be having fresh and healthy groceries at no cost at Washington Elementary School on Monday, September 16 from 1:30pm-3:00pm. I have included the flyer below with more information.

The 3rd Annual BUSD AASF Black to School event will be taking place on Saturday, September 14th at Willard Middle School from 11-1PM. I have included the flyer with more information. 2024 BUSD Black-to-School final (1).pdf

The Young, Gifted and Black (YGB) will be returning to BUSD this month. YGB is accepting students in grades 2-8. If you’re interested please scan the QR code on the flyer or go to https://proud2beblack.org/ to complete an application. If you have questions/concerns, YGB will have a table at the Black to School Event at Willard Middle School on Saturday, September 14th from 11:00-1:00 PM. OFEE specialists will be hosting their first Middle School Workshop session. It will be on Tuesday, September 17, 2024 at King Middle School from 5:30pm-7:30pm .

What happens at the Emerson library when it's closed? Your stuffed animal friends can get a glimpse into the mysteries of the library at night and you can ask them about it the next day!.
