MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Emerson Families,

Thank you for a strong start to the school year! The Back To School Night was a success. Families visited classrooms, met school staff, and learned about our academic programs and our whole-child approach to education. We hope you were able to see what a special place Emerson is. We’re proud of our experienced educators and strong parent community.

The PTA Association meeting was also well-attended. Our new President, Will Barton, presented the plans for the school year. We were happy to welcome new volunteers for Room Parents and Cal Football Parking, but there are still some spots left! If you are interested in helping in either capacity, email: will.barton@emersonelementary.org

Mark your calendars for Parent-Teacher conferences, taking place the last week of October. It is a crucial opportunity for parents to learn about their child’s progress. We welcome your involvement in supporting our students' education.

We are currently accepting nominations for the 2024- 2025 School Site Council (SSC). The School Site Council typically meets once a month via Zoom. There will be a district-wide committee training on Tuesday, October 1st (time and location TBD). This committee is responsible for the approval and oversight of the Single Plan for Student Achievement and the allocation and use of state and federal funds.

In addition, we need one representative for the district-wide Parent Advisory Committee (PAC). This group provides input on the school district’s Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) for special “supplemental” State funding that supports low-income students, English learners and foster children. This volunteer would represent Emerson and the families of students who LCAP supplemental funds support. You do NOT need to be a member of the SSC to represent our school on the PAC Committee; however, we ask that you attend the SSC to report about the PAC meetings.

Please SUBMIT NOMINATIONS for SSC and PAC HERE. Read the nomination form for more information and then nominate yourself or a peer by Friday, September 6th. School-wide elections will take place between September 9 and September 17, 2024 via Remind, with the results announced by Friday, September 20, 2024.

We invite you to our first All School Meeting of the year TOMORROW, Friday, September 6th at 8:30 am in the Multipurpose Room. The PTA will host a coffee on the blacktop for parents beforehand, starting at 8:00 am. Come learn the Emerson Song, celebrate student Shout Outs, learn a fun Attendance Rap, and much, much more!

Hope to see you soon,

Principal Holmes
